Ordering basics
Minimum orders, turnaround, and how to get started.
What is the minimum order at ColorByInk?
There is no minimum order. ColorByInk accepts orders for a single piece all the way through to bulk runs of hundreds. DTF transfer printing makes single-piece orders affordable.
Bulk pricing kicks in automatically at 12+ pieces, with deeper discounts at 24, 48, 72, and 144+ pieces. You can mix sizes within an order — discounts apply to the total piece count.
What is your standard turnaround time?
Standard turnaround is 1 to 3 business days from proof approval. The clock starts the moment you approve your digital proof — not when you place the order.
Most orders ship within this window. Ship time then depends on your destination: 1 day for Long Island, 2–3 days for East Coast, 4–5 days for West Coast.
Do you offer rush or same-day printing?
Yes. Same-day production is available for emergency orders for an additional rush fee. Rush availability depends on artwork complexity, garment availability, and current production load.
To confirm rush availability for your order, call (631) 213-7698 or email hello@colorbyink.com as soon as possible.
How does the proof process work?
After you place your order, we send a digital proof showing exactly how your design will look on the chosen garment. You review it on screen and either approve it or request changes.
Production does not start until you approve the proof. This catches typos, color mismatches, and sizing issues before anything is printed. The proof process is included free with every order.
Do you serve Long Island schools and PTAs?
Yes. ColorByInk works regularly with schools, PTAs, sports teams, and student organizations across Long Island including Suffolk County and Nassau County.
We offer school spirit wear, team apparel, fundraiser shirts, and event apparel. Contact us for institutional pricing and tax-exempt order setup.
Can I get branded apparel for my small business?
Absolutely. Small business branded merchandise is one of our specialties — corporate polos, embroidered uniforms, branded swag for trade shows, employee t-shirts, hoodies, and hats.
We work with small businesses of all sizes across Long Island, from solo operators to teams of 100+. Place an order through the shop or request a custom quote for larger projects.
DTF, screen printing & embroidery
How our three printing methods compare.
What's the difference between DTF, screen printing, and embroidery?
DTF (Direct-to-Film) transfers are best for full-color complex artwork on any garment, with a soft hand and excellent durability.
Screen printing offers the lowest cost per piece on bulk orders of 24+ pieces with simpler designs.
Embroidery is best for polos, hats, and corporate wear — it gives a premium stitched look that lasts indefinitely.
Each method has its strengths. We'll recommend the best fit for your project if you're unsure.
Which printing method should I choose?
For small runs (1–24 pieces), full-color art, or photo-realistic designs → choose DTF transfers.
For bulk orders (24+ pieces) with simpler artwork and the lowest per-piece cost → choose screen printing.
For polos, hats, jackets, and corporate uniforms where a premium professional look matters → choose embroidery.
Still unsure? Contact us with your project details and we'll recommend the best method for your goals and budget.
Can I mix multiple printing methods on one order?
Yes. You can combine DTF, screen printing, and embroidery in the same order — for example, embroidered logos on the front of polos and DTF prints on the back.
Each method is priced separately, and bulk discount tiers apply to the total piece count across the entire order.
What brands of garments do you carry?
Premium garment brands including Bella+Canvas, Port & Company, District, Next Level, Sport-Tek, Eddie Bauer, and others.
We source through SanMar, the largest US wholesale apparel distributor, ensuring quality, availability, and competitive pricing on every garment style.
How pricing works
Per-piece costs, setup fees, and bulk discounts.
How is pricing calculated?
Total price is the garment cost plus the printing fee per location:
DTF Transfer: $6.50 per print location
Screen Printing: $4.00 per location + $25 setup fee per location
Embroidery: $7.50 per location + $45 setup fee per location
Embroidery digitizing (one-time per logo, only if it hasn't been digitized before) is $60 per location. Bulk discounts apply automatically based on total quantity.
Do bulk discounts apply automatically?
Yes. Bulk discounts apply automatically the moment your cart hits each tier. There's no code to enter, no minimum to call about — the discount appears in your cart in real-time as you add pieces.
The tiers are: 15% off at 12+ pieces, 28% at 24+, 38% at 48+, 45% at 72+, 52% at 144+.
Mix and match sizes within an order — discounts apply to total piece count, not size-by-size.
Do you offer wholesale or reseller pricing?
Yes. Resellers, designers, and high-volume buyers can contact us for wholesale pricing. We offer reseller accounts with deeper bulk pricing, white-label shipping options, and dedicated production support.
Email hello@colorbyink.com or call (631) 213-7698 to discuss reseller terms.
Shipping & pickup
How fast we ship, where, and local pickup options.
How fast do you ship?
Once production is complete (typically 1–3 business days after proof approval), orders ship via tracked carrier the same or next business day.
Long Island: next-day delivery
East Coast: 2–3 days
West Coast: 4–5 days
All shipping is via standard ground unless you request expedited options.
Do you ship outside Long Island and New York?
Yes. We ship anywhere in the United States. While our roots and primary service area are Long Island and the New York metro, we ship custom apparel orders nationwide.
Free shipping applies to orders $99 and over. Orders under $99 ship for $12.99 flat rate.
Is local pickup available?
Yes. Local pickup is available by appointment at our Bohemia, NY location:
305 Knickerbocker Avenue, Suite 4
Bohemia, NY 11716
Choose pickup at checkout and we'll contact you when your order is ready. Pickup saves on shipping and is popular for local schools, teams, and businesses.
Artwork & design
File formats we accept, and what to do if you don't have art ready.
What file formats do you accept for artwork?
We accept customer-supplied artwork in:
Vector formats (preferred): AI, EPS, PDF, SVG
Raster formats: PNG, JPG, TIFF at 300 DPI minimum
Vector artwork produces the cleanest results because it scales without quality loss. Logos and graphic designs are best supplied as vectors.
If you only have a low-resolution image or a photo of a logo, contact us — we can usually clean it up or recreate it for an additional fee.
Do you offer graphic design services?
Yes, we can clean up artwork or create new designs from scratch.
Simple touch-ups (background removal, color adjustments, format conversion) are often included free with your order.
Custom design work from scratch is quoted per project. Contact us with your concept and we'll provide a design quote alongside your printing quote.
Returns, defects & cancellations
Our policies on errors, defects, and order changes.
What if there's a defect or printing error?
If we made a printing error or there's a manufacturing defect, contact us within 7 days and we'll reprint or refund the affected pieces at no charge.
The proof process catches most issues before printing, but mistakes can happen. We stand behind our work and want every customer to be happy with their order.
Can I cancel an order after placing it?
Orders can be cancelled or modified before you approve the digital proof. Once you approve the proof, production starts immediately and the order cannot be cancelled.
Custom-printed apparel is not returnable for buyer's remorse, but defects and printing errors are always covered. If something's wrong, contact us right away.
